Succession happens in a planned way at SNA E New Zealand, distributors of BAHCO precision hand tools. Craig Wymer replaced Neil Pinkerton in October as the New Zealand Manager, with Neil staying on until the end of this year to ensure a smooth transition.
“Coming into my new role as country manager,” explains Craig, “my background of knowing systems and having met clients so I can put faces to names has really helped make the transition easier. After being here eight years, ‘on the road’ I already knew the products, how everything works, and my customers.
“My role covers looking after the warehouse, customer care and our four area representatives on the road. I also personally handle key accounts; dealing with all the head offices of the retail chains we work with. We carry a diverse range of hand tools, over 2,000 SKUs for the hardware, construction, industrial, automotive and horticulture sectors.”
Moving up within a ‘nurturing culture’
Coinciding with Craig Wymer’s new role is the appointment of David Cole, who moves from Customer Care to Area Representative for the central North Island. “David’s appointment is typical of the nurturing culture that my predecessor Neil Pinkerton has developed and one that I’m keen to continue,” observes Craig.
“David came to us straight from school and another ‘success from within’ is Luke Latham who also came to SNA E NZ straight from school six years ago to work in the warehouse. Luke now handles the upper North Island, from Takanini north.”
Spending time with the end user
“We spend time with the end user,” continues Craig. “We demonstrate and give advice to the pruning, construction and automotive end-users. If they’re interested we re-direct them to our retail on-sellers.”
What’s next for BAHCO?
“Band saws are a big focus in Europe so it’s a new focus of mine too. It’s a highly specialised field, but we’ll make sure we stock blades for all the specialists including top end Tungsten/carbide blades. With new markets, new products, a team recognised as ‘the good guys to deal with’, a turnover that has grown almost 3-fold under his management and an inclusive culture that encourages loyalty and promotion from within, retiring NZ Manager Neil Pinkerton can be rightly proud of the legacy he leaves behind.
