The Kiwi cooperative joins Mico in pledging to remove single-use plastic bags from its stores.

Mitre 10 NZ has just confirmed the removal of single-use plastic bags from the 128 checkouts of Mitre 10, Mitre 10 MEGA and Hammer Hardware stores from1 July 2018.

From this date, says Mitre 10 NZ, customers can either bring in their own bags etc or can choose to purchase a reusable bag in-store for a dollar.

Recycled paper sheets will also be available for customers requiring something to keep their vehicles free from dirt and debris when transporting garden goods bought at Mitre 10 and Mitre 10 MEGA.

Also underway at Mitre 10 NZ is a review of plastic packaging and overall waste reduction.

Mitre 10 is a member of the Soft Plastics Recycling programme and is working to expand the number of Mitre 10 stores currently participating in the initiative.

Mitre 10 was beaten to the punch to become the first hardware channel retailer to publicly eschew single-use plastic bags when Mico went public yesterday.
