Dulux has released Balance, its new colour trend book for 2018.

Balance is a collection of “globally inspired hues, cocooning combinations, breezy neutrals and folklore-inspired shades that celebrate the traditions of the past and the innovations of the future.”

Natural, earthy colours and textures will be coming to the fore in 2018, says Dulux Colour Expert, Davina Harper.

“At the same time, we’ll also see an inspiring travel palette emerging, filled with tropical prints and colours influenced by sun-drenched Brazil, Miami and Palm Springs.”

Soft, greenish-greys such as Dulux Spanish Olive and neutral pinks such as Dulux Mornington Half are predicted to be popular in 2018 as they provide a good base to experiment with bolder brights that are coming through while darker colours and striking hues will also continue to be used in small doses to add “dashes of drama to the home”.

Curated themes in the book are named Essential, Kinship (above left), Escapade and Reflect (above right).

The Essential palette combines warm shades of leather and putty with cool grey-green. “With its predominantly muted palette, Essential will create a soft and peaceful setting,” says Davina Harper.

“From the four palettes of 2018, this one will be popular as home enthusiasts will appreciate how easily these colours can transform and update a space.”

The Kinship palette has warm, tones of terracotta, burnished red and faded green, mixing subtle neutrals with bolder hues derived from nature.

Escapade is a collection of saturated, summery brights that make you think of tropical beaches and cocktails by the pool. “Escapade is all about fun and adventure, and it’s a great example of how the emotional impact of colour can create a playful retreat with an added zest for life,” says Davina.

The Reflect palette celebrates 1970s glamour and 1990s swagger, but has been reinterpreted in an understated and thoroughly contemporary way. Think rich, decadent green, greyed-off purple and burnt rose. “Reflect is a moody and reflective palette that is filled with meaningful hues with intrinsic value.”

“Interior trends are continuously moving forward,” says Davina. “Changing one or more colours in your home will keep your interiors up-to-date. The key to making these new hues work in your home is to understand the look and feel you’re hoping to create.”

Selleys White for Life

Designed to keep bathrooms looking as white and pristine as possible over the long-term, the new White for Life Tiling System from Selleys is a range of tiling products made specifically for bathroom maintenance.

The step by step range includes adhesives, grouts, sealer, sealant and cleaner and, when used as an entire system, is an ideal way to resist yellowing, staining and blackening.

Fancy a scotch?

3M has added two new products to its painter’s tapes portfolio. Scotch Masking Tape for Humid Conditions has Humi Bond Adhesive, tape that sticks and stays in humid conditions. This tape features 5-day interior or 3-day exterior clean removal, high adhesion level, seepage resistance for clean lines and a durable backing. This high visibility yellow tape is suitable for multiple surfaces, including zero-VOC, scrub able and deep-base paints. ·

ScotchBlue PLATINUM Painter’s Tape is a new premium painter’s tape that is easy to apply and adjust, won’t tear or splinter, and has a 90-degree tear for simplified corner prep. Its Edge-Lock feature means no paint seepage and ultra-sharp paint lines and 14 day clean removal adds an extra level of assurance with no surface damage.

Selleys Stabicraft promotion

Selleys had another successful year with its Selleys Stabicraft promotion where the giveaway was a Stabicraft boat package worth $50K.

The lucky winner was Debby Keay, who purchased Selleys Roof & Gutter from Mitre 10 MEGA in Whangarei.

Selleys sends out a big thanks to all the retailers and stockists who supported this promotion.

Switch on with Resene SmartTouch

Homeowners now have a very futuristic option in the form of Resene SmartTouch, a conductive coating that serves as a base coat enabling users to turn on their lights by simply touching the wall.

Simply apply base coats of Resene SmartTouch, connect into the switch plate and overcoat with your choice of Resene topcoat or wallpaper then tap to turn the lights on and off!

Ideal for areas such as hallways, open plan living, garages and bedrooms and very handy where there are mobility limitations as the basecoat coating can cover large parts of the wall to enable tall and short, young and old to turn on the lights, even if they can’t easily reach the light switch. Switching operations are performed by a unique series of touch sequences on the coated surface.

Resene recommends Resene SpaceCote as the topcoat for an easy clean surface. Best of all, once the paint system is complete, the wall looks just like a normal wall. And if desired the switch plate can be placed in a more inconspicuous area as it will only be needed as a backup.

Spraying just got easier

New to the market is the Wagner HEA Control PRO 250, a semi-professional sprayer now available from Award Concepts. The Control Pro 250M is a High Efficiency Airless sprayer with reduced pressure from traditional models allowing for a more controllable spray with up to 55% less overspray. It also eliminates the need for users to thin paint as they can paint straight from the can and a slightly feathered edge allows for a better finish when overlapping spray patterns.

Spruce up the pool with Cotec

Just in time for summer Cotec is offering Epotec HB epoxy pool coating for an “as new” surface on your pool that’s seamless, easy to keep clean, and durable.

Epotec HB works well on Fibreglass, Concrete, Marblesheen and Pebblecrete pools and is suitable for professional and DIY jobs.

Stir it up with Santint!

The Santint G360M Paint Mixer is now available in New Zealand as part of Formula’s range of top-line mixers. The Gyroscopic model G360M can handle paint containers from 1 to 20 litres and will mix a filled canister up to 36 kilos in weight.

Together with the Tri-directional door which avoids the need to bend down to open, the machine has a fully extractable loading plate and a wide open front for easy loading.

Auto clamping pressure adjustment plus a unique guide rail offer protection against spillage.
